2007 LLC Training Reaches Outside the Box

September 17, 2007 12:07 PM

The 2007 Local League Coordinator Training (LLC) took place at the Tampa Airport Marriott this past weekend, September 15-16.  Sixty USTA Florida league staff, Community Coordinators and LLC’s met in Tampa for an interactive and informative workshop that focused on ways to grow USTA local league tennis programs.  This is only one of two times each year that LLC’s (over 70 total in USTA Florida) are brought together to share success stories, interact in person, discuss tricks of the trade and learn from what their peers are doing.

USTA Florida league staff members Jacqui Brunton, Sandy Marshall and Dona Garcia set up the training to help motivate LLC’s and provide them with new ideas they can take back to their local leagues.  Goal setting, TennisLink training, National and Section regulation changes, community outreach, facility scheduling, future trends/concerns/solutions and the new Flex League were among the topics discussed.

LLC’s coordinate and supervise all USTA League Tennis activities on the local level and can be a very overwhelming task at times.  With about 28,000 USTA League Tennis players in the state of Florida, LLC’s must have the best resources possible to do their jobs; thus what the training was all about!  LLC’s recruit captains and team members, promote the local league, organize the format and structure of competition, meet section deadlines and assist players, captains and the USTA Florida section when needed.

Learning from one another is an important way for LLC’s to make positive changes within their local leagues.  The Interactive Workshop on Sunday specifically targeted this concept and special thanks go out to Region 6 and Region 8 LLC’s Maria Miro and Lou Armstrong, Region 3 LLC Linda Meehan, Region 1 LLC’s Carl Weathington and Gina Field, Region 6 LLC Linda Anderson and Region 7 LLC Linda Kleitch; they all shared their knowledge to help benefit fellow coordinators.

In addition, special thanks to USTA Florida Community Coordinators Janet Sprague, Cheryl Rivera, Jeff Davis, Susie Bessire, Cathy Nordlund, Molly Zimmer and Don Lang for participating in the weekend training and offering your insight about community relationships.

LLC’s now have all the current information they need to run a successful USTA local league program for the remaining and upcoming year.  They are here to help grow the game of tennis for YOU, so take advantage of their expertise today!
