FLORIDA WINS 9.0 ADULT NATIONAL EASTERN MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS

The mixed doubles team from Sarasota, Fla., representing the USTA Florida Section, captured the national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 9.0 Adult National Eastern Mixed Championships held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Nov. 16-18.  The weekend brought together 37 adult teams from eight USTA Sections including USTA Middle States, USTA New England, USTA Eastern, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Midwest, USTA Caribbean, USTA Southern and USTA Florida.

The Florida team defeated a team from Wisconsin, representing the USTA Midwest Section, in the championship match with 2 wins and 1 loss.  On the previous day, the Florida team defeated a team from USTA Southern in the semifinals, while the USTA Midwest team defeated a team from USTA Middle States (wildcard) in the semifinals.  Both teams advanced to the championship match by winning their round-robin flights contested Friday and Saturday.

The Captain of the USTA Florida Section team is Barb Lancer and the roster includes: Tina Von Kessel, Larry Woodruff, Tana Korngut, Michael Karka, Joey Gratton, Nina Schmidt and Jim Capazola (co-captain).

 

FLORIDA FINISHES SECOND AT 6.0 SENIOR NATIONAL EASTERN MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS

The mixed doubles team from Puerto Rico, representing the USTA Caribben Section, captured the national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 6.0 Senior National Eastern Mixed Championships held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Nov. 16-18.  The weekend brought together 28 senior teams from eight USTA Sections including USTA Caribbean, USTA Florida, USTA Middle States, USTA New England, USTA Eastern, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Midwest and USTA Southern.

The Caribbean team defeated a team from Jacksonville, Fla., representing the USTA Florida Section, in the championship match with 3 wins and 0 losses.  On the previous day, the Caribbean team defeated a team from USTA Southern in the semifinals, while the USTA Florida team defeated the USTA Florida wildcard team in the semifinals.  Both teams advanced to the championship match by winning their round-robin flights contested Friday and Saturday.

The Captain of the USTA Florida Section team is Lisa Winney and the roster includes: Cy Kitto, Freddy Khoshghadami, Jo Ann Sparkman, Lane Manis, Linda Wilson, Glenda Davis, Shirley Hargrove and Phil Winney.

 

FLORIDA FINISHES SECOND AT 10.0 ADULT NATIONAL EASTERN MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS

The mixed doubles team from Raleigh, N.C., representing the USTA Southern Section, captured the national title at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 10.0 Adult National Eastern Mixed Championships held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Nov. 16-18.  The 10.0 level was the highest division at the tournament, which brought together 37 adult teams from eight USTA Sections including USTA Middle States, USTA New England, USTA Eastern, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Midwest, USTA Caribbean, USTA Florida and USTA Southern. 

The Southern team finished the competition with a perfect record of 4 wins and zero losses, and defeated teams from USTA Florida, USTA Mid Atlantic, USTA Eastern and USTA Middle States.  The mixed doubles team from Jacksonville, Fla., representing USTA Florida, finished a close second with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss; their only loss was to USTA Southern.

The Captain of the USTA Florida Section team is Bill Chapman and the roster includes: Cindy Mcgehee, Olivier Lorin, Julie Stoppelli, Steven Parkes, Narelle Parkes and Galen Perdikins.
