Southwest Teams Advance to Adult Section Championships

Barb Lancer and her 4.5 team from Longwood Run Athletic Club took home first place honors with a 3-1 record.  After a perfect 6-0 record in district play, Lancer's team went on to beat out two other teams, one from Naples YMCA, and the other from Port Charlotte, to win the regional event.  In all, nine teams compete in three separate districts in Southwest Florida at the 4.5 level.  Team members include Nina Schmidt, Joann Demartini, Cindy Bruckman, Jane Hancock, Kristina Von Kessel, Tana Korngut, Janice Longhurst, Sonja Dickey, Lilian Peltz-Petow, Marion Lieb, Tig Winsler, Karen Abbe, and Lancer.

Janet Sperling and her 4.0 team from Bath and Racquet Tennis Club took home top honors at the regional event.  After an unbeaten record of 11-0 in district play, Sperling's team went on to finish in first place with a 3-1 record at the regional tournament, the teams only loss coming to Naples Grande.  Members of the team are Charl Cobb, Linda Campbell, Francine King, Lisa Richey, Carol Lamoureaux, Gloria Adams, Cathy Kobren, Sonja Dickey, Lisa Meshad, Marcie Johnson, Robin Thomes, Cristin Holley, Trina Hardt, Betsy Laughlin, Nina Bramhall, Julie Rush, and Sperling.

The 3.5 womens' team from River Strand Golf and Tennis Club were victorious, winning the regional tournament with a perfect record of 4-0.  After going 6-1 in it's local league, River Strand won a four team playoff at Lakewood Ranch to qualify for the regional event.  Members of River Strand's team are Chelsea Duchene, Marcia Frost, Mona Kleitch, Linda Curhan, Alice Sciarrino, Sue Booth, Denise Holland, Lauren Raden, Judy Robertson, Deb Lamanna, Janet Maisch, Leah Kain, Lyn Wittmer De Suriol, Barbie Treend, Anna Bacher, and Caryn Troxell.  The team is captained and coached by Lance Martin.

All three teams will participate in the USTA League presented by Chrysler Adult Section Championships, August 8-10.  Winners will qualify for nationals at various sites around the United States!  Congratulations teams and good luck at sectionals!
