ATP Delray Beach Looking for Ball Kids, 'Survivor Series' Players

Delray-Beach-2011-logoOfficials with the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC) are looking for ball kids who will play a major role in the 10-day event that runs Feb. 24-March 4 at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center.

Ball kids must be 12 years old, are required to attend two pre-tournament training sessions, and work at least three sessions during the event. Training sessions are scheduled for Feb. 8 and 15 from 5-7 p.m. and Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. Ball kids receive uniforms, meals during working sessions, match tickets for families and friends, and are invited to a post-tournament party.

The Delray Beach ITC includes 18 sessions of tennis. The ATP Champions Tour event gives ball kids the opportunity to work with Grand Slam winners Ivan Lendl, Michael Chang, Mats Wilander and Pat Cash while the ATP World Tour 32-player draw includes American stars Andy Roddick and John Isner as well as the world No. 1 Bryan brothers in doubles.
Email ITCBallkids@aol.com to receive an application, or download an application from www.YellowTennisBall.com (link located under ITC Family at bottom of website). Completed applications must be received by Jan. 20. For more information, call the tournament office at (561) 330-6000.

The Delray Beach ITC is also offering a final chance for any tennis player wanting a shot to play in an ATP World Tour field that includes Top 20 American stars Andy Roddick and John Isner.

Delray Beach ITC's "Survivor Series II" pre-qualifying tournament will be held Jan. 28-30 at the Delray Swim & Tennis Club's claycourts, with the winner receiving a wildcard into the ITC's qualifying tournament (Feb. 25-27). The "Survivor II" winner must finish in the top four at the 32-player qualifying tournament to keep his dream alive. Those top four advance to the ITC's main draw -- the $500,000 ATP World Tour event played Feb. 24-March 4 at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center.

USPTA Announces Teaching Pro Certification Exams

USPTA_logoThe United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) provides tennis-teaching professionals with the opportunity to earn one of the sport's most respected certifications by participating in USPTA Certification Exams scheduled nationwide in 2012.

Florida certification workshops are scheduled for Feb. 4-5 in Weston, Fla., at the Midtown Athletic Club; Feb. 11-12 in Destin, Fla., at Tops'L Racquet Club; Feb. 19 in Bonita Bay, Fla., at the Bonita Bay Club; and March 17-18 in Boca Raton, Fla., at The Oaks at Boca Raton.

USPTA's Certification Exam includes an on-court evaluation of tennis strokes and playing skills, stroke and grip analysis, private and group lesson instruction, and other skills needed in the tennis-teaching profession. The exam also includes a two-hour written test covering teaching, playing and business management skills, rules, club activity programming and other topics. Applicants can now opt to take the written and grip exams online after completing the on-court portions of the certification test.

The exam process also offers the Professional Tennis Coaches Academy I (formerly Certification Review Course) that covers test topics. The PTCA I can be taken at Regional Testing Centers, which offer tests every other month on the same weekends, or it can be taken online. The course is also useful to current USPTA members who wish to review specific exam areas before upgrading their certification ratings. Topics include student psychology, developing student rapport, class organization, lesson progression and a review of teaching techniques.

Contact USPTA at (800) 877-8248 or e-mail membership@uspta.org to register for an upcoming exam.
