ATP Delray Tennis Qualifiers Open; USTA Junior Showcase

October 27, 2011 05:06 PM
Entries Open for Survivor Series ATP Delray Beach Qualifiers

Delray-Beach-2011-logoAny tennis player wanting to fulfill a dream of playing in a professional ATP World Tour-level event will have that opportunity at the upcoming 'Survivor Series I' Qualifying Wildcard Event on Nov. 19-21, 2011, at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center in Delray Beach, Fla.

The first of two 'Survivor Series' tournaments is a USTA-sanctioned Florida Section hardcourt event that will send its winner via wildcard into the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC) Pre-Qualifying Tournament next February.

The 'Survivor Series' events have annually attracted more than 100 players for each tournament. After receiving a wildcard, a 'Survivor' winner must then finish among the top four players in the 32-player Delray Beach ITC Qualifying tournament. If that mission is accomplished, the player then reaches the main event -- the 2012 ATP World Tour Delray Beach ITC that includes the world's top-ranked players.

Perennial Top 10 and Grand Slam champion Andy Roddick will be headlining the 2012 player field. The Delray Beach ITC's 2012 ATP Champions Tour event is also played at the same venue the same week, and gives fans a glance into tennis history with Grand Slam champion Ivan Lendl highlighting the 8-player tournament.

'Survivor II' -- the second of the qualifying wildcard events -- will be held Jan. 29-31, 2012, on clay at the Delray Swim & Tennis Club.

'Survivor I' tournament registration closes Nov. 16. For more information please call (561) 330-6000 or go to www.YellowTennisBall.com.

USTA Junior Showcase at ITA Coaches Convention in Naples

ITA logoJunior tennis players will get a chance to play matches in front of college coaches from across the country at the USTA Junior Showcase, held at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Coaches Convention in Naples, Fla., at the Naples Grande Resort on Dec. 13, 2011, from 2-7 p.m.

Parents can learn more about college tennis and the recruiting process, and there will be a college tennis and recruiting information session held during the showcase.

The event is open to all high school aged players who aspire to play college tennis. Matches will be short sets to five with a tiebreak at 4-4, and players will be guaranteed at least three matches. Space is limited to 32 boys and 32 girls.

Note: Due to the variety of NCAA, NAIA, and junior college recruiting rules regarding contacts, no contact between coaches and players will be allowed before, during, or after the event to prevent rules violations.

The cost for the USTA Junior Showcase is $20 per player, payable by cash or check the day of the event. To register for the event or for more info e-mail Elissa Kinard at kinard@usta.com.
