Teams from Broward County, Sarasota/Manatee and South Miami-Dade advanced to the USTA national mixed league championships over the weekend with wins in their respective divisions at the USTA Florida Adult Mixed League 8.0/9.0/10.0 Championships, Oct. 22-24, 2010, at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.

Sarasota/Manatee finished ahead of defending champion and second-place finisher Jacksonville in the 10.0 division to advance to the 10.0 nationals in Tucson, Ariz. Joe Gratton captained the Sarasota/Manatee squad, which plays out of the River Strand Golf & Country Club in Bradenton, and includes team members Kristina Von Kessel, Cesar Morales, Marina Gando, Jennifer Fiers, Larry Woodruff, Tiffany Selvaggio, Danielle Hollis, John Hollis, Egan Adams, Nina Schmidt, and Dennis Hendrickson.

Broward County rolled past Gainesville/Lake City 3-0 in the semifinals, and edged second-place Tallahassee 2-1 in the 9.0 division final. Captained by Ann Spalding, the Broward squad is comprised of Mark Spalding, Alaina Fotiu-Wojtowicz, Tyler Shelly, Tracy Viebrock, Daniel Mork, John McLin, Stephen Levin, Rocio Rodriguez, Gary Reif, Colette Kienle, Michael Brown, Anibal Ciffoni and Jo Ann Schneider.

The 8.0 division was won by South Miami-Dade, which edged Lee/Charlotte 2-1 in the final. Dawn Schlesinger is the captain of the South Miami-Dade squad, which plays out of the Coral Oaks Tennis Club, and is comprised of team members Maria Hulett, Andrea Steinacker, Robert Hopson, David Dewitt, Kimberly Kaskel, Eloy Cuevas, Allan Zabielinski, Jamie Richman, Alberto Vallejo, Bettyjean Simmons, John Dubois, Susana Lagger, Vivianna Perez, Jason Pardon, Kristina Wilson, Kerry West and Stephen Hanssen.

USTA League groups players by six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (beginner) to 5.0 (advanced). Mixed doubles teams are comprised of two players whose combined ratings are no more than a 1.0 differential, and add up to their division limit or less (example: a 9.0 mixed doubles team could be a 4.5 woman and a 4.5 man, or a 4.0 and a 5.0).

Broward County will represent USTA Florida at the 2010 USTA League 9.0 Mixed National Championships on Nov. 12-14, 2010, at the Hilton El Conquistador Tucson in Tucson, Ariz. The Sarasota/Manatee and South Miami-Dade teams will represent USTA Florida at the USTA League 8.0 & 10.0 Mixed National Championships on Nov. 19-21, 2010, at the same location.
