The IBIS Golf & Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., handed out coveted gold, silver and bronze balls on Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2011, at the conclusion of the 2011 USTA National Mother-Daughter Clay Court Tennis Championships.

Gold balls were awarded in the Open, Senior and Super-Senior divisions. One Florida team captured a gold ball when Coral Springs’ Susan Boyer and Irene Mueller of Casselberry won the Senior division, defeating West Palm Beach’s Nancy Stoller and Amy Gordon, who settled for the silver ball trophy.

The third-place bronze ball in the Senior division went to Dorothy and Elizabeth Kobak of Old Westbury, NY.

"The weekend featured great competition and camaraderie in three divisions, Open, Senior and Super Senior," said Tournament Director Chuck Gill. "In addition to the great tennis, the players were treated to a player’s dinner party, great gifts, and complimentary courtside chair massages from the IBIS Golf & Country Club Spa staff."

College Club Tennis Start-up Grants from USTA Tennis on Campus

Universities or colleges looking to start a "club" tennis team on campus are encouraged to apply for a USTA "Tennis on Campus" start-up grant. The USTA’s Tennis on Campus program allows club teams to compete against other schools in their region, and become eligible for USTA Section and USTA National Campus Championships competition.

"These start-up grants are designed to foster new club tennis teams and recreational programs on colleges and universities either through the assistance of a recreational sports professional (NIRSA member) or through support of a varsity coach (ITA member)," says Glenn Arrington, USTA national manager for Tennis On Campus. "The grant applications are housed and administered through our partners at NIRSA and ITA."

Funding grants will be available through the spring semester of 2012.
