Friends of Miami Tennis Partners with Village at Coral Reef Park; June 5 Free Tennis Block Party

Friends of Miami Tennis logoFriends of Miami Tennis, Inc., a USTA Community Tennis Association and 501c3 not-for-profit organization committed to enhancing diverse community through the healthy lifestyle of tennis, announced that it is assuming the management of the tennis programming at Coral Reef Park located in the Village of Palmetto Bay.

"We want Coral Reef Tennis to be where the whole family comes and plays and enjoy this lifetime sport of tennis," said USTA Florida Tennis Program Coordinator Cathy Nordlund. "This park is very special to me since I have lived in Palmetto Bay all my life and brought my children and now my grandchildren to play. I look forward to assisting them with bringing USTA programming to the tennis facility, especially our new 10 and Under Tennis. I also will be working with the Village to inform them of the grant opportunities that are available to them through our USTA Florida 'Share the Love' grant. I am proud to say as of today we have given out over $60,000 to our local facilities and programs here in Miami."

The park now offers 10 and Under Tennis classes featuring the QuickStart format of play on Monday through Friday from 4-5 p.m., and Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. 10 and Under Tennis will also be incorporated into the tennis summer camp. Children age 10 and under who have never had USTA membership will also be offered free one-year USTA junior memberships, which allow them to participate in USTA Jr. Team Tennis and sanctioned tournaments. They also have junior and adult group lessons as well as challenge ladders.

The park is now is offering USTA Jr. Team Tennis for all levels and ages and for the summer season, and already has eight teams and is still growing.

On Sunday, June 5, 2011, the park will also be hosting a free USTA Tennis Block Party from 3-6 p.m., featuring fun on-court activities for the whole family, including free food and prizes.

"I am very excited to be a part of the partnership between Friends of Miami and Palmetto Bay," said Cyndi Johnston, director of tennis at Coral Reef Park. "I look forward to growing tennis in this community. I will be organizing USTA Jr. Team Tennis competition for children ages 5-18."
