Women's Pro Tennis Returns to Amelia Island with USTA Pro Circuit $10K Event

Amelia Island Plantation Racquet Park will be the site of the 2010 Amelia Island $10,000 Women's Championships, a USTA Pro Circuit event, Sept. 25-Oct. 3, 2010. The field is open to 64 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The tournament will be held on the same claycourts that have hosted world-class women tennis players including Maria Sharapova, Lindsay Davenport, the Williams sisters, Monica Seles, Martina Navratilova, and Steffi Graf.
"The women who will be playing here in September are at the top of their game, and we are looking forward to watching the next generation of great players. The USTA Pro Circuit events in the tennis world inspire community spirit like the best minor leagues of professional baseball," said Kelly Gunterman, director of tennis at Amelia Island Plantation and tournament director for the USTA Pro Circuit events. "A young player you see at Amelia Island this year could be at next year's US Open, like 17-year-old Jack Sock, who won last year's Futures Championship event at Amelia Island Plantation, and has earned a wildcard in this year's main draw for the US Open."
Admission to the tournament is free from Saturday, Sept. 25 until Thursday, Sept. 30. Final weekend admission (Friday, Oct. 1-3) will be $10 for adults. VIP passes for the final three days of the tournament with reserved seating and access to the hospitality tent will be available for $75. The tournament will benefit Tennis Without Borders, which helps students pursue life opportunities on and off the court by providing gear, instruction and academic support to clubs and schools.
