Day 1 Review: 5 Seeds Upset at USTA Florida Jr. Chps.

bobby-logo-USTA_COVERonGreen_2013Rain halted play in the late afternoon on Saturday, the first day of play at the 65th edition of the USTA Florida 'Bobby Curtis' Junior State Championships, taking place June 8-13, 2013 at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach, Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, and at the Ormond Beach Tennis Center.
 
No. 8 seed Rebecca Morse of Fort Myers was the highest-profile upset on the day, losing in the Girls' 16 division to Danielle Obolevitch of Sunny Isles Beach 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Weston's Alexis Zobeideh also toppled No. 15 Thandiwe Kangwa of Fort Myers 6-4, 7-6(7).
 
Two seeds fell in Boys' 16 division play as Naples' Chase Burton beat No. 9 Justin Hall of Tampa 6-2, 6-4, and Bradenton's Gabriel Pilones upset No. 15 Alan Sweet of Naples 6-2, 6-4.
 
Pilones last year captured the Boys' 14 division championship.
 
There was one casualty in the Girls' 18 division as Key Biscayne's Allegra Hanlon upset No. 14 Adi Milstein of Boca Raton, who retired with injury after one game.
 
The seedings held in the Boys' and Girls' 12s, 14s, and Boys' 18s divisions with no seeded upsets Saturday.
