Daytona 1st, Naples 4th at USTA League Super Sr. Nationals

Florida USTA Leagues teams captured a national championship and finished in fourth place at the USTA League 6.0 & 8.0 Super Senior National Championships, held April 19-21, 2013 at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz. The championships concluded the 2012 USTA Super Senior league season.
 
The men from Daytona Beach, representing the USTA Florida Section, captured the 6.0 Super Seniors national title, finishing ahead of second place Indianapolis, Ind., who were representing the USTA Midwest Section.
 
The Daytona men finished with six team wins and 16 individual wins over the weekend to four team wins and 14 individual wins for Indianapolis. Finishing third was the USTA Pacific Northwest Section wildcard team (Eugene, Ore.), and fourth was also the USTA Pacific Northwest Section (Tacoma, Wash.).
 
The Daytona team was captained by Bruce Cotten and featured team members Ronald Vedova, Ned Rowley, Bill Shea, Roger King, Claude Bigot, Garry Lane and Bill Masters. The team plays out of the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.
 
This year's USTA League 6.0 Super Senior National Championship drew the Top 19 teams in the U.S., with seven men's teams and 12 women's teams. Since its inception in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 participants in its first year, to over 820,000 players across the nation today, making it the world's largest recreational tennis league.
 
At the 8.0 Super Seniors Men championships, the team representing the USTA Florida Section from Collier County (The Strand, Naples) finished fourth after falling to USTA Caribbean (San Juan, P.R.) in the 3rd/4th place playoff.
 
In the semifinals the Naples team lost to USTA Missouri Valley (Oklahoma City, Okla.) which went on to finish runner-up in the final to champion USTA Pacific Northwest (Portland, Ore.).
 
The Naples team season roster was comprised of George Morton (captain), Thomas Morrison, David Siede, Richard Hoel, John Moter, Ronald Mutchnik, John Suter, James Gelhaar, Richard McNaughton, David Bushey, Jeffrey Macie, Tom Haas, Ronald Bartlett, Bob Boyson, and John Weiss.
