Find a Florida USTA Play Event in September; Fellsmere Tennis Kick-Off
miami-play-day-mini-netApproximately 50 facilities throughout Florida will be hosting free USTA Play Events in September.

Get the whole family active and involved in the sport for a lifetime -- wherever you live, there’s sure to be an event near you. These free, fun events are a great way to introduce kids to tennis and its life-long benefits.
Studies have shown that an early, positive experience in sports is vital for the healthy development of kids, creating a lifelong commitment to an active lifestyle. Physical inactivity has been a growing epidemic, creating an epidemic of childhood obesity.  The USTA has made a commitment to reach out to children and encourage an active lifestyle, so that they can learn to love physical activity and participate in sports for life.
Youth tennis today is much easier to learn, as the game has been sized right for those 10 and under. Balls bounce lower and move slower, making them easier to hit. Kids’ tennis racquets are sized for small hands and are easier to grip and swing. And the court size is smaller and easier for the child to cover.
Nickelodeon will be celebrating the 11th anniversary of its Worldwide Day of Play and tennis will take center stage during the celebration. If you’re looking to have fun with your family and introduce your kids to a healthy, lifetime sport, make sure to get to a free Tennis Play day during the month of September.

City of Fellsmere Prepares for Tennis Kick-Off in September
Fellsmere_2014_TPTThe Fellsmere community celebrated the grand re-opening of the refurbished City of Fellsmere public tennis court earlier this year -- and now kids and adults will take to the court. On Sept. 27 kids, adults and entire families will take part in the kick-off of tennis programming for 2014.
Thanks to funding from the USTA Florida Section Foundation to recover the use of the tennis court and the support from the City of Fellsmere, the city has become part of USTA Florida’s ongoing Hispanic outreach Initiative ‘Tenis para Todos’ or ‘Tennis for Everyone,’ designed to bring tennis to Hispanic communities in Central and South Florida.
The group of Fellsmere residents who have committed to volunteer for the new tennis program will provide activities for the whole family to try tennis and learn the basics through on-court games. The community of Fellsmere is encouraged to participate in this free event and meet the volunteers led by Gloria Rosas, who will continue to promote tennis in the community and will coordinate the free group tennis sessions provided to anyone interested in learning the sport of a lifetime.
“I am so excited to be providing tennis in the Fellsmere community. The best part, students we provided tennis to nearly 10 years ago at the Guadalupe Mission during our summer tennis program, are now giving back to the younger generation by volunteering to instruct those in the current program,” says Janet Sprague, USTA Florida tennis program coordinator. “The program is open to all and we welcome all ages and levels, both children and adults.”
To register contact Diego Rosas at (772) 663-9164.
Through Tenis para Todos, USTA Florida continues to encourage individuals from the Boys & Girls Club, Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission, public and private schools, and all residents to be active participants of the new tennis program launching on Sept. 27. USTA Florida welcomes sponsorships and community partners and encourages anyone interested in participating or volunteering in the program to contact Janet Sprague at (561) 385-7399 or Sprague@florida.usta.com.
