Alex Rybakov
Alex Rybakov of Coral Springs won his third International Tennis Federation singles title of the year last month at theInternational Grass Court Championships in Philadelphia, Pa.
The 16-year-old left-hander, recently mentioned in a New York Times article about one-handed backhands, didn't lose a set in the Grade 4 tournament. The top seed, Rybakov captured the championship of the nation's only junior grasscourt tournament with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over unseeded David Wilczynski.
Rybakov earned his top seeding in the tournament with two titles on clay -- one at the ITF Grade 4 in Panama back in March, and his second at the ITF Grade 4 in Delray Beach in May, where he also won the doubles title. The younger brother of former Florida State star Katie Rybakova, Rybakov has seen his ITF junior ranking rise rapidly in recent months, from 511 at the end of last year to 166 now.
Coached by his father Nick, Alex trains at the Rybakov Tennis Academy, where his mother Galina and sister Katie also provide fitness instruction and coaching for young players at the Tennis Center of Coral Springs.
