Delray Beach ATP Event Offering Holiday Discount and More

delray_beach_ITC_tickets_2012It's a great time to buy tickets to the 2013 Delray Beach International Tennis Championships (ITC), with several discounted specials available to the 10-day event scheduled for Feb. 22-March 3, 2013, at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center.

Fans can see ATP World Tour stars John Isner, Tommy Haas, Kei Nishikori and the Bryan brothers as well as ATP Champion legends John McEnroe and Mats Wilander in action -- it's the world's only combined tour event.

The event's holiday promotion includes a 50 percent discount on grandstand seats, with other seating types available at various savings based upon location and dates (use promo code: HOLIDAY). For as little as $12 up until Dec. 28, fans can print tickets at home by going to YellowTennisBall.com.

Fans who haven't been to Delray Beach will find the most intimate site of the ATP's 12 U.S. venues just a pace from bustling Atlantic Ave. and its quaint collection of boutiques, galleries and cafes. The city, named by the USTA in 2010 as a "Top 10 Tennis Town," was recently chosen by USA Today and Rand McNally as America's "Most Fun Small Town."

"ATP events are unique largely in part to their location," says Tournament Director Mark Baron. "We love the fact that we host this incredible international sporting event in the smallest city on the ATP calendar yet deliver one of the most powerful presentations of the game."

Nightly concerts by local bands and Rock 'n Roll Hall of Famers, variety of dining and drinking options and the VolleyGirls promotion team are all part of the ITC's entertaining presentation. Special events are scheduled throughout the 10 days.

USPTA Announces 2013 Certification Exams for Tennis-teaching Professionals

USPTA_logoThe United States Professional Tennis Association provides tennis-teaching professionals with the opportunity to earn certification by participating in one of more than 150 USPTA Certification Exams scheduled nationwide in 2013.

Upcoming Florida Exams are:
Jan. 19-20 -- Boca Raton, Oaks at Boca Raton
Feb. 16-17 -- Orlando, Orlando Tennis Center

USPTA's Certification Exam includes an on-court evaluation of tennis strokes and playing skills, feeding and grip analysis, private and group lesson instruction, and other skills needed in the tennis-teaching profession. The exam also includes a two-hour written test covering teaching, playing and business management skills, 10 and Under Tennis rules, club activity programming and other topics. Applicants can now opt to take the written and grip exams online after completing the on-court portions of the certification test.

The exam process also offers the Professional Tennis Coaches Academy I that covers test topics. The PTCA I can be taken at Regional Testing Centers, which offer tests every other month on the same weekends, or it can be taken online. The course is also useful to current USPTA members who wish to review specific exam areas before upgrading their certification ratings. Topics include sport psychology, developing student rapport, class organization, lesson progression and a review of teaching techniques.

Advanced registration is required. The total fee for the exam and application is $175, plus prorated USPTA membership dues. Contact USPTA at (800) 877-8248 or email membership@uspta.org to register for an upcoming exam, or for further details.
