St. Pete Beach Tennis Festival on Aug. 11

founders_day_aventura_tennisThe St. Pete Beach Community Center will host the St. Pete Beach Tennis Festival on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, from 10 a.m.-noon for children of all ages and family members, free to the public.

The St. Pete Beach Tennis Festival will feature tennis clinics, demos, refreshments, music and more.

"We are excited to host a 10 and Under Tennis Festival -- tennis is a life-long sport that families can experience together," says Jennifer McMahon, recreation director for the City of St. Pete Beach. "With the new format for 10 and Under Tennis, it allows for a positive and successful experience for the youth. The City of St. Pete Beach is a very active community, so I think many of the youth will join in the excitement of the 10 and Under Tennis format and make tennis their life-long sport!"

For small children the festival will feature the 10 and Under Tennis format of play. 10 and Under Tennis features the right-sized equipment for kids age 10 and under, utilizing smaller, lighter racquets and softer, lower-bouncing balls, and kid-sized nets and court sizes. 10 and Under Tennis is creating a whole new generation of players in the U.S., introducing kids to tennis in a fun format rather than with the frustration of regular tennis balls that bounce over their heads, heavy adult-sized racquets and too much court for little legs to cover.

"The St. Pete Beach festival is the perfect way for families to celebrate the end of summer and come out and try tennis," says USTA Florida Tampa/St. Pete-area Tennis Program Coordinator Carla Williams. "The focus will be on allowing kids of all ages to have fun through tennis. The St. Pete Beach community has great local parks and a strong recreation center, and we really want residents to know that tennis is a great sports option, even for kids 10 and under. Come on out and learn about tennis practice and play opportunities for the fall!"

The St. Pete Beach Community Center is located at 7701 Boca Ciega Dr. in St. Petersburg.
