Free Short-court Masters Tennis Showcase at Hidden Palms in Vero Beach

September 4, 2013 10:35 AM
mediawall-masters-tennisHidden Palms Tennis & Swim Club in Vero Beach, Fla., in partnership with a grant from USTA Florida will host a Masters Tennis Showcase on Sept. 27, 2013 from 9-11 a.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Masters Tennis is the new 60-foot short-court option played within a full-size 78-foot tennis court for a wide array of players -- veterans looking to get back in the game after injuries, players who can no longer cover a full court, or adults newer to the game looking for a fun challenge.

"Clubs and players in Florida with our older demographic have been asking us for a program like this for years," says USTA Florida Executive Director Doug Booth. "Anyone can play with the smaller racquets, slower balls and smaller courts. Players who left the game due to age or injuries can again play with this format, truly making tennis the 'Sport of a Lifetime.'"

The 60-foot court with the lower-bouncing "orange ball" provides the perfect learning laboratory for players or teaching pros working with new players. Players can use their regular racquets, or smaller racquets which provide more control.

Masters Tennis programs are currently being played at approximately 20 sites across the state of Florida, the largest in Lee County (southwest Florida) hosting approximately 80 players in five park locations.

"Come out to Hidden Palms and try out a new way to play tennis that makes it easy and fun," said Hidden Palms Director of Tennis Sean Teeter. "Masters Tennis is a great way to get a workout and meet new people. It is great for 55-and-older players to ensure that you have a great time playing."

Following the Masters Tennis Showcase, Hidden Palms will start a weekly Masters Tennis program.
