USTA Florida and Local CTA Partner with Girl Scouts in Re-launching GirlSports Initiative

USTA Florida Tennis Program Coordinator Janet Sprague attended the first-ever Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida's Community Partner Expo at the Parkland YMCA, held Tuesday Oct. 22, 2013. Nancy Horowitz, USTA Florida president-elect and Mercedes Sideregts, East Coast Tennis Foundation, Inc. president, joined Sprague to promote their GirlSports Tennis Challenge to Girl Scouts of all ages.

After 10 years on hiatus, Girl Scouts of the USA is re-launching their GirlSports Initiative. Horowitz, Sideregts and Sprague are all former Girl Scouts and are excited to once again be partnering with Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida to bring tennis to local Girl Scouts.

Horowitz came prepared with her historical Girl Scout Sash from her days as a Girl Scout troop "7" member. East Coast Tennis Foundation, a local USTA Community Tennis Association/NJTL will team up with USTA Florida and GSSEF to bring the GirlSports Tennis Challenge to Girl Scouts, including Team Leader Training, equipment resources and a season-ending event on April 5, 2014 (location to be determined based on entries). Girls will receive a t-shirt, medal and participation patch.
