Naples' Hill Named USTA Florida Volunteer of the Month

July 4, 2013 01:10 AM
hillAs a volunteer-led non-profit organization, tennis volunteers are critical to the success of USTA Florida. In addition to tennis know-how, each brings an additional skill set, be they people or project skills, that help move the organization forward.

In the case of June 2013 Volunteer of the Month Amber Hill of Naples, the skills of a volunteer serve the organization's volunteer structure as a whole.

Hill serves on the USTA Florida Section's Volunteer Committee, using her expertise as an instructional system designer to create systems within the organization's external website and internal web pages to increase volunteer communications.

"I feel very fortunate that I have been able to use some of my skills that I use daily in my career to help introduce new concepts to USTA volunteers," Hill says. "I helped create an online introduction for the first-time attendees to the USTA Florida Annual Meeting. The intention was to get them excited and familiarize them with what the Annual Meeting was all about. I also collaborated with another volunteer to help get the SharePoint training available online for the local league coordinators and volunteers."

Her work on various project teams has also helped streamline preparations for the USTA Florida Annual Meeting, which serves as the year-end awards celebration for the USTA Florida Section's top volunteers, players and organizers.

"Her role on the Annual Meeting Project Team has also been an asset," says USTA Florida Volunteer Manager & Meeting Planner Lynne Salus. "Her survey questions were used with the USTA Florida Board of Directors and have helped us get the meeting to a better place."

USTA Florida volunteers have a passion for tennis, and Hill is no exception.

"When I am not playing tennis I am either watching it, watching my kids play, or thinking about when I can next play and how I can improve," she says. "Tennis has enriched my life, and I want to do what I can for tennis."

USTA Florida congratulates Amber Hill as the June 2013 Volunteer of the Month for applying her skills and passion for recreational tennis to improving volunteer communications and the volunteer experience within the Florida Section.

My earliest tennis memory was..."Having Grammie teach me how to keep score."

If I could play tennis with three people, they would be..."My daughter, son and husband in 10 years!"

My best-ever tennis memory is..."Playing mixed doubles in our city tournament with my husband, when I hit a backhand down the line against a 4.5 man that was perfect! I actually said to him, 'That is the backhand I have dreamed of.' What made it even better is that one of my teammates was there to see the shot! She was just as excited as I was!"
