The two largest junior team tennis events of the year in Florida will be held in July and August to determine champions both at the Recreational Track level, and which teams from the Championship Track will advance to represent the USTA Florida Section at the USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships.

The USTA Florida State Team Tennis Challenge, the state-wide event for the Recreational Track, will be held on July 26-28, 2013, at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach. Registration opens for the event in early June and closes July 5. Age groups are 12-under, 14-under, 16-under, and 18-under, with novice, intermediate, and advanced divisions.

"A unique feature of the USTA Florida State Team Tennis Challenge is that you can 'BYOT,' or bring your own team, and you do not have to competed in a local junior team tennis league to qualify," says USTA Florida Associate Executive Director Andy McFarland. "USTA membership is also not required to participate in this event. Instead, USTA members will receive a financial discount upon registering."

The USTA Jr. Team Tennis Section Championships, the Championship Track open only to USTA Florida Jr. Team Tennis squads that register through TennisLink, will be held on Aug. 2-4, 2013, at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach. Registration opens for the event on June 19 and closes July 19. Age groups are 14-under and 18-under only, with only intermediate and advanced divisions.

The 14-under and 18-under Championship Track teams will advance to represent the USTA Florida Section at the USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships, Oct. 17-20 for the 14-under and Oct. 24-27 for the 18-under, at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.

"When we took surveys late last year concerning junior team tennis, we heard two things loud and clear," said USTA Florida Team Tennis Committee Chair Christine Ducey. "Providers wanted flexibility in the way they offered local kids leagues, and everyone loves the USTA's Sectional events. So USTA Florida listened, and league organizers now have the ability to offer the types of leagues or play opportunities that work in their area.

"Also USTA Florida is piloting four exciting new Regional Team Tennis Challenges this fall throughout the state. Local tennis providers can get teams of kids together to play in a fun, competitive two-day event, similar to Sectionals, but closer to home. No USTA league play or membership required."
