Marion County (Ocala) won two titles, and Broward (Ft. Lauderdale), Duval (Jacksonville), Escambia (Pensacola), and Pinellas (St. Petersburg) were also victors over the weekend at the USTA Florida 18 & Over 2.5/3.5/4.5 League Championships, held in Altamonte Springs and Daytona Beach on July 19-21, 2013.

The winning teams now advance to represent the USTA Florida Section in their divisions at the USTA League National Championships in October. Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs hosted the men's and women's 4.5 divisions this past weekend, while the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach hosted the men's and women's 2.5 and 3.5 divisions.

Marion was the lone county to claim multiple titles over the weekend, winning the Men's 2.5 championship with a team out of the Fort King Tennis Center, and the Men's 3.5 championship out of the Country Club of Ocala.

Broward County and Duval County each had multiple title chances before Duval County was defeated in the Women's 2.5 final by Escambia County, and Broward County was stopped in the Men's 4.5 final by Pinellas County.

South Miami-Dade was the only county to go winless in multiple finals, defeated in both the Women's 3.5 and Men's 3.5 championship matches. Five of the six division finals on Sunday and Monday were decided by one-game margins. Rain during the weekend delayed play on multiple occasions, and forced the Women's 3.5 final, where Duval County defeated South Miami-Dade, to a Monday morning completion.

The Florida 18 & Over 2.5 men's and women's division champions from this past weekend will now advance to the USTA National Adult 18 & Over 2.5 Championships on Oct. 4-6, 2013, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. The Florida 18 & Over 3.5 men's and women's division champions will advance to the USTA National Adult 18 & Over 3.5 Championships on Oct. 25-27, 2013, at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz. The Florida 18 & Over 4.5 men's and women's division champions will advance to the USTA National Adult 18 & Over 4.5 Championships on Oct. 18-20, 2013, at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.

This year's USTA Florida 18 & Over 2.5/3.5/4.5 League Championships drew the top 68 teams from throughout Florida. The teams, which represent various clubs, parks, recreational departments and organizations, finished at the top of their local leagues. The weekend was the completion of the 2013 18 & Over league season, with the previous weekend seeing 18 & Under 3.0/4.0/5.0 division championships from Duval County (Jacksonville, two titles), Alachua County (Gainesville), Brevard County (Indian Harbour Beach), Hillsborough County (Tampa), and Marion County (Ocala) advancing to nationals.

Nationally the USTA League was established to provide adult recreational tennis players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 Sections. The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). For more information on NTRP levels go to www.usta.com/Adult-Tennis/USTA-League/Information/About_NTRP.

Beginning with the 2013 National Championship season, USTA League changed its structure and format. The change offers USTA League participants three age categories (Adult 18 & Over, Adult 40 & Over and Adult 55 & Over and Mixed 18 & Over) to better align participants with players their own age. The restructuring guarantees more frequency of play opportunities at more appropriate age groups.
