Ocala and the Ft. King Tennis Center won two state titles, and Duval, Hillsborough, Orange/Seminole, and South Miami-Dade counties were winners over the weekend at the 2012 USTA Florida Adult 2.5/3.5/4.5 Section Championships, held Aug. 10-12 at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach. Each championship team advances to represent the USTA Florida Section at USTA League Nationals later this year.

Ocala was the only city/county to capture two titles, winning the Men's 2.5 and 3.5 divisions. USTA League adult players are rated according to the NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) scale, which at the USTA Florida Section championships level rates from 2.5 (beginner) to 5.0 (advanced).

Both Ocala championship teams were perfect over the weekend, with the Men's 2.5 team posting a 3-0 record, finishing ahead of second-place Alachua County, and the 3.5 team a perfect 4-0 ahead of second-place Broward County. The Ocala 2.5 team was captained by Paul Scott Steinberg, with the team roster comprised of Todd Stafford Jones, Frank Owings, John Frederick Berg, Chris Prusak, Gary Crawford, Rick Durham, Burt Waldren, Steve Forrest, and Efren Vasquez. The Ocala 3.5 team was captained by John Wheeler, with the team roster comprised of Brian McGee, Jacob Chak, Richard Velez Perrone, Oleksandr Kovalchuk, Dwight Landmann, Kyle Randle Drawdy, Michael Pera Daniels, William Steigner, Paul Franck, Joel Raney, Dustin Carstenn, Justin Gregory Greene, and Chris Reed.

Women's 2.5 division -- South Miami-Dade (3-0) finished ahead of Volusia (2-1)

The 2012 USTA League 2.5 Adult National Championship will take place Sept. 28-30, 2012 at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The 3.5 Adult National Championship will take place Oct. 5-7, 2012 at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz., and the 4.5 Adult National Championship will take place Oct. 26-28, 2012 at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.
