Orlando's Gouts Named USTA Florida January Volunteer of the Month

February 11, 2013 04:25 PM
gouts-marcelo-webWhen USTA Florida looked for kid-friendly tennis centers to launch its new ROGY (for the Red, Orange, Green, and Yellow ball progressions) "Tourn-events" for kids in 2013, one of the must-have venues were those run by MG Tennis Director Marcelo Gouts.

Gouts, whose MG Tennis operates multiple tennis facilities in and around the Orlando area, will host a three-hour ROGY event, St. Patrick's Day ROGY, on March 16, 2013 at the Fort Gatlin Recreation Center in Orlando. A staunch supporter of 10 and Under Tennis, Gouts remains on the leading edge of programs to best attract, develop, and retain junior tennis players.

"I love working with USTA Florida in ways to grow the game, and provide a positive opportunity to the community to get involved in the sport of a lifetime," Gouts says. "Play Days, Tennis Festivals and Jr. Team Tennis have been perfect examples of the effectiveness of our association impacting the tennis industry in our area."

With more than 20 years experience volunteering for USTA Florida in various capacities, the former Argentine junior champion names 10 and Under Tennis, Cardio Tennis, and Jr. Team Tennis as some of his favorite programs to keep kids and families alike active. He established MG Tennis in 1986, and expands his footprint in Orlando by introducing tennis in elementary schools.

Now with ROGY events, Gouts and MG Tennis will serve parents who are ready to introduce their kids to organized tennis, but are not sure if they're ready for a league, and they don't want to spend all day or a weekend playing a tournament. Utilizing 10 and Under Tennis kid-sized equipment, he says the introductory programming will make a difference for the next generation learning the game.

"I think 10 and Under Tennis is developing ultimately into the product we all dream about, which can keep players age 6, 7, 8, in the game to the point where they can develop into a tournament player, then a full-court player by age 11 or 12," he says. "It is also going to help us retain players longer and not lose them to other sports, so we're going to see more talented players coming through the ranks."

USTA Florida thanks and congratulates Marcelo Gouts as the January 2013 Volunteer of the Month for his support of programs to nurture new generations of tennis players.
