Polk County Tennis Assoc. Launches Jr. Grand Prix Series

polk_county_tennis_assoc_logoThe Polk County Tennis Association has opened the door for high school and middle school tennis players to compete this summer with the launch of the Grand Prix Singles Challenge Series.
"This seven-week series for A, B and C level players offers singles matches weekly at different Polk County tennis centers," says Andy Durham, director of tennis at the Cindy Hummel Tennis Center. "Winners and losers are awarded points, with the season point leaders being invited to the season’s Masters tournament which will crown winners in each category."
The series for juniors age 11 to 18 is designed to allow high school and middle school boys and girls to develop their games over the summer months.
The Polk County Tennis Association is an official member organization and Community Tennis Association (CTA) of the USTA Florida Section.

'On Court with USPTA' 10 and Under Tennis TV Premier

USPTA_logoAn "On Court with USPTA: Parents and Pros Special" on 10 and Under Tennis will premier this Saturday, June 1, 2013 on Tennis Channel at 2 p.m., with a repeat on June 8 at 2 p.m.
"On Court with USPTA" is the cable TV show produced by the United States Professional Tennis Association. This special episode, "Parents and Pros Special," is hosted by Patrick McEnroe and provides an introduction and instructional resource for 10 and Under Tennis. It guides parents and teaching pros on how youth tennis equipment, courts and new teaching techniques are fast becoming the most powerful tools for getting more kids to play better tennis.
Viewers will get a chance to see first-hand how games specifically designed for kids help develop technique and athleticism. They will also get a chance to hear from those teaching and playing 10 and Under Tennis and the positive impact playing tennis has had on them. Kids talk about what they like about the program, coaches discuss how they teach it and how they feel it makes a difference, and parents explain their thoughts and feelings toward how they see the development as their child gets older.
