Preview: Marion, Miami, Pinellas Looking to Repeat at USTA Florida Senior League Chps.

2012_senior_sectional_graphicSeventeen cities/regions will be represented this weekend at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach, vying to earn berths to USTA League nationals during the USTA Florida 3.5/4.5 Senior League Section Championships, May 4-5, 2012.

Defending champs in the field who last year advanced to nationals are the Women's 3.5 North Miami-Dade squad, the Men's 3.5 Marion County team, and the Men's 4.5 Pinellas County team. The Women's 4.5 Volusia/Flagler counties team, which last year won the Women's 4.5 and advanced to nationals, this year did not make it out of regional play.

Participating teams hail from the counties/cities/regions of Alachua, Brevard, Broward, Collier, Duval, Escambia, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lee/Charlotte, Leon, Marion, North Miami-Dade, Orange/Seminole, Pinellas, Polk, South Miami-Dade, and Sarasota.

USTA Senior League teams are comprised of players 50 years or older, ranging in NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) levels from 3.0 to 4.5, in doubles play only.

"This is the pinnacle of the USTA League season for these players, winning their local league championships and advancing to the USTA Florida Section state championships," said USTA Florida Adult & Senior League Coordinator Dona Garcia. "The goal this weekend for players is to beat the best of the best in Florida in their own age division, and advance to nationals to represent USTA Florida."

The Florida men's and women's 3.5 division winners will advance to the 2012 USTA League 3.5 Senior National Championship on Oct. 12-14, 2012, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. The Florida men's and women's 3.5 division winners will advance to the 2012 USTA League 4.5 Senior National Championship on Oct. 19-21, 2012, at the same location.
