Registration Open for Youth Team Tennis Challenge in Ft. Myers

August 28, 2013 12:20 PM
Holiday Fun at Jr. Team Tennis Fall Section TournamentFt. Myers will play host to the USTA Florida Southwest Florida Regional Team Tennis Challenge on Sept. 28-29, 2013, at Three Oaks Park and Florida Gulf Coast University.

Team Tennis Challenges are a new series of open events, hosted by USTA Florida and presented by Wilson Racquet Sports. These "BYOT" (bring your own team) events do not require previous team tennis league participation. Both USTA members and non-members can participate, with USTA members receiving a $10 discount on registration.

"We have seen consistent demand across Florida for more inclusive, competitive team formats of play," said USTA Florida Associate Executive Director Andy McFarland. "The new USTA Florida Team Tennis Challenges offer fewer restrictions, allowing more teams to participate. They also give players who are not yet USTA members the opportunity to experience our events and programs, while offering a clear value proposition for our junior USTA members."

To participate in the Team Tennis Challenge, teams must have a minimum of two boys and two girls and no more than eight players per team. Age divisions include 10-under, 12-under, 14-under, 16-under, and 18-under, with three skill divisions: novice, intermediate and advanced. Short-set scoring will be utilized.

Note: The 10-under division is advanced skill level only and players must be ages 8-10 to participate.

Teams from anywhere in Florida may enter the Southwest Florida Regional Team Tennis Challenge. However, teams from Southwest Florida will be given priority if the field reaches a maximum number of teams.

Registration is open until Friday, Sept. 13. Captains are encouraged to register teams early and parents must also register players on teams before the deadline. The first 10 complete teams to register will receive movie tickets for all players on the team who participate in the event.
