Sarasota, Duval, Hillsborough Teams Win USTA League Tennis, Advance to Nationals

USTA League adult mixed doubles tennis teams from Sarasota/Manatee (Bradenton), Duval (Jacksonville) and Hillsborough (Tampa) counties advanced to the USTA League Mixed National Championships over the weekend as the USTA Florida Section Adult Mixed 6.0, 8.0 & 10.0 Championships were held Oct. 12-14, 2012, at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.
 
Jacksonville successfully defended their 6.0 division Florida Section title from 2011, advancing to USTA League Nationals for a second consecutive year. In addition to capturing division championships, Jacksonville and another Sarasota/Manatee counties team (Sarasota, in addition to Bradenton) also finished second in a division.
 
NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) divisions of play over the weekend were 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 teams, with combined player ratings of no more than a 1.0 differential between the partners (example: a 6.0 team could be two 3.0-rated players, or a 2.5 and a 3.5). Team matches over the weekend consisted of three mixed doubles matches per round. Teams advanced from round robin flight play to qualify for the semifinals to the final, or in smaller divisions round robin play directly to the finals.

6.0 Division Champion: Duval County (Boone Park, Jacksonville)
Final Result: Duval d. Escambia County (Pensacola area) 2-1

10.0 Division Champion: Sarasota/Manatee counties (River Strand Golf & Country Club, Bradenton)
Final Result: Sarasota/Manatee (3-1 record) finished ahead of Duval County (2-2) in single-group round robin play

Eighteen different counties or regions were represented over the weekend: Alachua, Brevard, Broward, Collier, Duval, Escambia, Hillsborough, Indian River/St. Lucie/Martin, Lee/Charlotte, Leon, Marion, North Palm Beach, Orange/Seminole, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota/Manatee, South Miami-Dade, and Volusia/Flagler counties.
 
The 2012 USTA League 6.0, 8.0 & 10.0 Mixed National Championships will take place Nov. 16-18, 2012 at the Hilton El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort in Tucson, Ariz.
 
USTA League provides fun and competitive matches for thousands of tennis players nationwide. It also gives players the opportunity to experience team camaraderie, to improve their tennis skills, to meet and compete against new players and to participate in competition beyond local league play. There were more than 806,000 participants in USTA League in 2011 within the adult, senior and mixed doubles divisions and the section league programs. The program, which celebrated its 30th Anniversary last year, is the world's largest recreational tennis league.
