mediawall-masters-tennisHarbour Island Tennis Centre will host a Masters Tennis event for players age 55 and older on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla.

Masters Tennis is perfect for those new to the game, players who have stopped playing full-court tennis due to injuries, and even experienced players looking for a new challenge with friends.
USTA Florida's Masters Tennis format is played on a smaller 60-foot court with lower-compression orange balls in singles and doubles. It is easy to learn, fun to play, social and keeps all players active.
Masters Tennis Ambassador and Harbour Island Director of Tennis Patrick Swafford will be on hand to offer tips on technique and play. as well as let everyone know what the club offers in follow-up programming.

"Our whole staff is very excited to show anyone who has been putting off getting into tennis how easy Masters Tennis is," Swafford says. "Success comes much quicker in Masters Tennis than traditional tennis, and this is so much fun right away that everyone will be hooked right off the bat. Not only that, returning players that have lost a few steps or just don't move like they used to will get back on the court with no worries at all."
The scoring uses a simple 1-2-3-4 system, and the first person or team winning four points wins the game. The first person or team winning 6 games wins the match.
"Points begin with a serve, but you are much closer to the net than regular tennis so it is much easier to get the ball in play," Swafford says. "You can either serve overhand or underhand. From then on traditional rules of tennis apply."
The cost for the event is $5/person with drinks and snacks provided.
