The USTA Florida League Adult 18 & Over women's 4.5 team out of Tampa captured the national title over the weekend at the 2014 USTA League Adult 18 & Over 4.5 National Championships, held Oct. 24-16 in Indian Wells, Calif.

In the final the USTA Florida Section representatives, who during the local season played out of the Harbour Island Tennis Center in Tampa, defeated the USTA Texas Section (Dallas) 4-1.

In the previous semifinal round they defeated a team from USTA Midwest (Charleston, W.V.) 3-2.

The Tampa team's season roster was comprised of Chris Bartos (captain), Lisa Nicoll, Judi Alford, Tami Florin, Karen Olson, Linda Thomson, Lilivette Arroyo, Lisa Balsera, Natalie McGill, Iris Kraft, Alexandra Gade, and Mary Ann Porter.

Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 participants in a few parts of the country in its first year, to over 820,000 players across the nation today, making it the world's largest recreational tennis league.

USTA League was established to provide adult recreational tennis players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels.  Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 sections. The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
