More than 50 children participated in tennis in a fun, non-competitive environment when Arcola Lakes Park in Miami, Fla., hosted the Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Play Day on July 17, 2014.

Children additionally participated from programs at Gwen Cherry and North Glade parks.

"The event included different tennis stations, and Tennis Skillastics which develops hand/eye coordination and improves concentration," said USTA Florida Miami-area Tennis Program Coordinator Cathy Nordlund. "Coach Billie from Arcola Lakes Park lead the activities. We ended the day with a Hit for Prizes, with each child going home with a prize."

Miami-Dade County Parks saw participants from children in ongoing after-school tennis programs organized by the parks, and has incorporated tennis into their summer camps.

USTA Play Days are events designed to introduce kids to competition in a low-pressure setting where results are not documented. The events provide kids with the opportunity to continue to develop and enhance their skills. For both novices and experienced players, Play Days are a welcoming way for kids to experience the social and competitive aspects of tennis.
