The Pensacola, Fla., area held two events in February promoting 10 and Under Tennis, organized by Michael Edge, junior tennis director at the Roger Scott Tennis Center.

Tennis coach at the Booker T. Washington High School, Edge and his boys' and girls' teams conducted a 10 & Under Tennis Camp for 85 juniors in Pensacola at the Roger Scott Tennis Center. The camp was conducted on eight 36-foot courts and eight 60-foot permanent-lined courts. The camp consisted of a clinic, tournament and exhibition with the high school players, and concluded with a "Hit for Prizes" on four courts.

Edge also oversaw what was the first of three spring 10 and Under Tennis Playdays at the Roger Scott Tennis Center.

"We had over 20 juniors compete in our first Playday," Edge said. "There were two divisions, 8-and-under and 10-and-under. The tournament lasted three hours and the juniors played over 80 sets, while local high school players volunteered to help the juniors on each court. Food from Chick-fil-A was provided for all the players. Chick-fil-A of Cordova Mall will sponsor and provide food for all 10 and Under Tennis Playdays at Roger Scott Tennis Center."

10 and Under Tennis is designed for children featuring smaller court sizes, racquet sizes, foam and decompressed balls, a simple scoring system, and net heights adjusted to ease kids into the sport. Similar mini-tennis formats have long been popular in Europe, where current stars such as Roger Federer and Kim Clijsters first learned the game with age-adjusted racquets, balls and court sizes.
