USPTA Club Tennis Chps. in Daytona; Sewing Notches Girls 14 Sectional

USPTA_logoThe 9th Annual USPTA Champion of Champions Tennis Tournament, benefiting The Volusia Literacy Council, will be held on April 6-7, 2013, at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.
 
"Players must be members or employees of the club they are representing, and independent players are welcome, space available," says tournament organizer Dave Brown.
 
New this year will be a Small Club Champion named for participating facilities with eight or fewer courts, and a Large Club Champion for facilities with nine or more courts. The team format event is all doubles with main draw and consolation matches for prizes and the traveling Cup for one year.
 
In the Large Club Division, a total team from each participating club will consist of one men's and women's doubles team at each of the following levels: 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5/Open and ages 55+ and 65+. In the Small Club Division a total team only has to field men's and women's teams at 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 55+.

Sofia Sewing of Doral, Fla., joined a list of Florida-raised or developed stars such as WTA player Madison Keys and University of Florida freshman Danielle Collins by capturing the singles championship at the USTA Florida Girl's 14 Sectional, held in Pembroke Pines, Fla., wrapping up during the first week in March.
 
The 10th edition of the event was held at the Pembroke Lakes Racquet Club, where in the final the No. 8 seed Sewing defeated No. 5 Meible Chi of Weston 6-1, 6-1.
 
Chi en route to the final toppled No. 1 seed Melissa Plambeck, No. 3 Amanda Meyer, and No. 7 Sasha Belaya.
 
"In our 10th year, we look forward to this event every year," said Tournament Director Pierre Arnold. "It is a great event for the City of Pembroke Pines."
 
Past winners of the event are Monica Chow (2004), Mary Clayton (2005), Danielle Collins (2006), Sachia Vickery (2007), Madison Keys (2008), Alana Wolff (2009), Maria Shishkina (2010), Katerina Stewart (2011), and Adriana Reami (2012).
