USTA Florida 2012 Senior League Championships Conclude This Weekend

mediawall-2012-senior-sectiNineteen Florida counties, including defending champions Leon, Pinellas, and Volusia, will compete to advance to USTA League Nationals when the USTA Florida 3.0 & 4.0 Senior League Section Championships are held on May 18-20, 2012, at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.
 
Participating regional champion teams include Alachua, Brevard, Broward, Collier, Duval, Escambia, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lee/Charlotte, Leon, Marion, North Miami, Okaloosa/Walton, Orange/Seminole, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, South Miami, and Volusia counties.
 
Volusia County is the defending state champion in the Men's and Women's 3.0 divisions, while Pinellas County is the defending champion in the Women's 4.0, and Leon County in the Men's 4.0. Pinellas will be looking to add to its 2012 USTA title haul after claiming the Women's 4.5 Senior crown during the USTA Florida 3.5 & 4.5 Senior League Section Championships, which were held May 4-5 in Daytona Beach.
 
USTA Senior League teams are comprised of players 50 years or older, ranging in NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) levels from 3.0 to 4.5, in doubles play only.
 
"This is the pinnacle of the USTA League season for these players, winning their local league championships and advancing to the USTA Florida Section state championships," said USTA Florida Adult & Senior League Coordinator Dona Garcia. "The goal this weekend for players is to beat the best of the best in Florida in their own age division, and advance to nationals to represent USTA Florida."

Division winners this weekend will advance to represent Florida at the 2012 USTA League 3.0 Senior National Championship on Oct. 5-7, 2012, at the Mission Hils Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., or the 2012 USTA League 4.0 Senior National Championship on Oct. 26-28, 2012, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
