USTA Florida Adult League Championships Wrap Up This Weekend

2012_league_section_chps_logoLast weekend featured the USTA Florida Adult 2.5/3.5/4.5 Section Championships, and this week the adult league tennis season in Florida will wrap up when the USTA Florida Adult 3.0/4.0/5.0 Section Championships are held Aug. 17-19, 2012 at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.
 
USTA League adult players are rated according to the NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) scale, which at the USTA Florida Section championships level rates from 2.5 (beginner) to 5.0 (advanced).
 
This weekend's champions will advance to represent USTA Florida at the USTA League Nationals in their respective divisions. Attempting to advance to nationals for the second straight year are the Orange/Seminole counties women in the 3.0 division, and the Duval County men in the 5.0 division.
 
Here are the county teams competing this weekend:
 
Women's Participating Teams
 
Women's 3.0 division -- Collier (captain: Andrea Washak), Duval (Pam Basney), Marion (Christine Godek), Orange/Seminole (Katrina Maness), South Miami-Dade (Jennifer Cameron)
 
Women's 4.0 division -- Alachua (captain: Lenhs Louis), Duval (Margaret Hatfield), Orange/Seminole (Laura Kimbriel), Sarasota (Lance Martin), North Palm Beach (Joann Gandhi)
 
Men's Participating Teams
 
Men's 3.0 division -- Escambia (captain: Thom Newcomb), Orange/Seminole (Jim Nguyen), Volusia (James Devis)
 
Men's 4.0 division -- Collier (captain: Art Nowakowski), Duval (Evan Schuetz), Hillsborough (Richard Beardsley), South Miami-Dade (James Moore), Volusia (Donald Hutchins)
 
Men's 5.0 division -- Collier (captain: James Harris), Duval (Alex Henderson)
 
Each of the division-winning teams will be entered into a drawing, and one team will win free USTA Florida apparel outfits from the USTA Florida online store. On Friday and Saturday of the event, teams will also have an opportunity to browse USTA Floridas online store via on-site laptops and receive special discounts on orders placed during the championships.
 
USTA Leagues sponsor Stonyfield, the world's leading organic yogurt maker, will also be on-site with samples, along with health and fitness information for players. Stonyfield is the Official Yogurt of USTA League, the country's largest recreational tennis league with more than 335,000 players nationwide. Sunscreen company SolRX will also be on site, providing samples of its various products to players.
 
The Florida men's and women's championship teams in each NTRP division will advance to USTA League Nationals. The 2012 USTA League 3.0 Adult National Championship will take place Oct. 12-14 at the Jim Refkkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz., and the 4.0 national championships on Oct. 19-21 at the same location. The 2012 USTA League 5.0 Adult National Championship will take place Sept. 28-30 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
