USTA Florida Ocala Team 2nd at League Nationals

The USTA Mixed 18 & Over team out of the Ft. King Tennis Center in Ocala finished second over the weekend at the 2013 USTA League Mixed 18 & Over 2.5, 7.0 & 9.0 National Championships, held Nov. 15-17 at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.

In the final the Ocala squad was defeated 3-0 by a team from Ponce, Puerto Rico, representing USTA Caribbean. Earlier in the day, the Ocala team defeated a team from Columbia, Md., representing USTA Eastern 2-1 in the semifinals.

The 2013 roster for the squad was Wendy MacMurray (captain), Rebekah Feldman, Michelle Coates, Gary Crawford, Janisse Watkins, Stephanie Crawford, Rick Durham, Michelle Knox, Dennis Keila, Alan MacMurray, John Zito, and Joan Matlock.

The Ocala mixed squad advanced to USTA League Nationals after winning the USTA Florida Sectional Championships without dropping a team match.

USTA League Mixed Doubles is for men and women 18 years of age and older. Teams are formed by combining the two player's individual National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) ratings. The play format consists of three doubles matches.

Established in 1980, USTA League is the world's largest recreational tennis league, having grown from 13,000 participants in a few parts of the country in its first year to more than 820,000 players across the nation today.
