February 20, 2012 01:16 PM
Supporting tennis programs that positively impact children and adults throughout Florida, the USTA Florida Section Foundation has opened its grant application program for 2012. The USTA Florida Section Foundation has served as the charitable arm of the United States Tennis Association-Florida Section (USTA Florida) since the foundation's inception in 2004, with a mission "to improve the health and quality of life of Floridians through tennis."

March 31, 2012, is the deadline for the first round of 2012 grants, with grant decision notification by the following April 30. The second grant application window in 2012 has a closing deadline of Sept. 30, with grant notification decisions by the following Oct. 31.

The USTA Florida Section Foundation, with funding from "Play Tennis" specialty license plate revenue, provides financial support to nonprofit organizations that offer tennis programs in two primary areas, youth tennis and adaptive tennis for special populations of all ages.

"The USTA Florida Section Foundation, Inc. is pleased to be able to help grow the game of tennis in Florida, and your contribution through the Florida 'Play Tennis' specialty license plate program goes a long way in helping us reach that goal," said USTA Florida Section Foundation President Donn Davis.

To qualify for a program grant, organizations must have: a non-profit designation from the IRS or be a government entity; be a USTA Organizational Member in good standing; have a broad base of community support and meet a compelling need in the community; align with the foundation's focus on youth tennis and tennis for adaptive populations of all ages; and practice and provide services without discrimination as protected by law.

The maximum program grant request that will be considered is $10,000 during 2012. Grant requests over $10,000 will be immediately declined. Grants for building, renovating and maintaining tennis facilities will be available through the foundation's Facility Grant program, available in Spring 2012.
