SR.LEAGUE_ORDERFORMS_2010-2Players representing 12 cities/counties will battle this weekend when the USTA Florida Senior Mixed League Section Championship is held Oct. 1-3, 2010, at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

South Miami-Dade is the defending champion in the 7.0 division, last year finishing ahead of Jacksonville, which has also earned a berth in the Florida Section championship again this year. In last year's 8.0 division, Tampa edged Daytona Beach in the 1st and 2nd place positions, but neither team qualified for the sectional championship in 2010.

"Twenty-two teams will be battling it out for Section bragging rights and a chance to represent USTA Florida at the National Invitational Senior Mixed Tournament in Arizona," said Jodi Manning, mixed leagues coordinator for USTA Florida.  "I look forward to lots of sunshine and a fun weekend of tennis."

The USTA League groups players by six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (beginner) to 5.0 (advanced). Mixed doubles teams in the 7.0 and 8.0 divisions are comprised of two players whose combined ratings are no more than a 1.0 differential, and add up to their division limit or less (example: a 7.0 mixed doubles team could be a 3.5 woman and a 3.5 man, or a 4.0 and 3.0).

The Senior Mixed League is comprised of players age 50 or older.

Teams competing this weekend:

7.0 Senior Mixed
Gainesville/Lake City (captain Mark Raudabaugh), Hillsborough (Jay Bortner), Jacksonville (Rosauro Macaraeg), Lee/Charlotte (Sally Wright), Orlando (Robert Malkemes), Pensacola (Kimberly Bremner), Pinellas (Pat Bitonti), Sarasota/Manatee (Peter Ceccacci), South Miami/Dade (Siriporn Burke), Tallahassee (Susan James), Treasure Coast (Donna Salisbury).

The USTA Senior Mixed Invitational event will be held in Surprise, Ariz., on April 7-10, 2011.

Established in 1980, the USTA League program has grown from 13,000 participants in a few parts of the country in its first year, to over 711,000 players across the nation today, making it the world's largest recreational tennis league.
