Well...we didn't come away with a team win today, but we were so close!!! We knew we would have some good competition out here and we had just that! But our spirits are not dampened. We are having a great time and taking in the experience!
We started out with a team warm-up at a local park. Thank goodness our pro was with us to help structure our 5 minute "official" warm-up once we get our court assignments. Yes, only 5 minutes! This was very different since we're used to 10.
Our first match couldn't have been any closer. Even though we only won one singles court, every other court was extremely close with a few third-set tiebreakers. We didn't walk away with the "W," but we still played good tennis. That's what we came here to do!
We had a lunch break before our next match at 2pm. Much hotter this time, and the courts seemed brighter. We didn't win this one either as we lost 2-3 overall, but again, VERY close matches and great competition. As our last doubles court was wrapping up, a storm blew in with crazy winds. Our girls pulled out the win through these conditions before it rained. Yes, rain in the desert! Didn't expect that!
Had a great dinner at a Mexican restaurant, El Charro. We wanted something authentic while in the "West." Great place, good food, would definitely recommend it if you're ever in Tucson.
One more match tomorrow at 12:30PM. Our spirits are still high and we're all so excited just to be here and to have this opportunity. We evened out the playing time for our lineup tomorrow, so we're hoping to go out with a team win for our last match. The Florida men's team is doing great, winning both of their matches today. We're rooting for you!
The support we have received from everyone back home, our families and friends from all over, that have been checking in with us all day to see how we were doing has been amazing!!! We are so blessed to have such great cheerleaders!
We might not be bringing home a trophy, but shopping is in our agenda tomorrow...we'll be bringing home something for sure!
