Granitto Speaks at ITF Forum; Upcoming Hispanic Workshop

Pembroke Pines' Gustavo Granitto spoke at the ITF Junior Tennis School -- San Luis Potosi Forum last week, giving players advice on finding the right training environment, and speaking about player motivation and tips on finding the right coach. The forum was for players participating in the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals.

More than 100 players and coaches filled the Congress Hall at the La Loma Centro Deportivo to hear from expert speakers from the tennis world. Other speakers included Luca Santilli, ITF head of juniors & seniors tennis; Dr. Fernanda Aguilar, an expert in sports nutrition; freelance photographer Susan Mullane who spoke about the role of the media, with particular reference to photographers, and gave the players useful hints and advice on using the media to their best advantage; and former professional long distance runner German Silva from Veracruz closed the forum with an inspiring talk on his experiences as a professional athlete.

Silva opened his talk with a video of the 1994 New York marathon when he took a wrong turn seven-tenths of a mile before the finish that put him 40 yards behind Benjamen Paredes. Despite this setback Silva was able to close the gap between him and Paredes to win the marathon and finish two seconds ahead of his Mexican compatriot.

The interactive forums are an integral part of the ITF Junior Tennis School, an education programme which also includes the e-learning website www.itfjuniortennisschool.com.

Granitto will also host the 5th Hispanic Coaches Workshop in Miami on Oct. 9-10, 2010, in Moore Park during the Hispanic Heritage Month. Dr. Paul Lubbers will be the Key Note Speaker. The workshop will provide information related to recreational tennis, high performance tennis, coaching philosophy, marketing, content and drills. Presentations will be both in Spanish and English upon request. For more information go to www.GTCTennis.com.

Crystal River Breast Cancer Tennis Fundraiser Tournament

The 6th annual "Play for the Cure" Crystal River Tennis Fundraiser Tournament will be held on Oct. 30-31, 2010, at Crystal River High School in Crystal River, Fla., just north of Tampa and west of Ocala.

The tournament will offer men's, women's and mixed doubles, with participants guaranteed at least three matches.

"The Crystal River High School tennis team hosts two annual tournaments in order to supplement their programs. Due to the generosity of our sponsors and participants at our October tournament we have been able to turn our January event into a charitable situation where people donate what they are capable of doing," said Tournament Coordinator Karen Tringali. "We have been fortunate to fill two to three vehicles with donated items which are in turn distributed to needy families in our school system."
