Twilight Tennis @ The Landing in Jacksonville Expands Evening of Activities

August 17, 2010 01:57 PM
Jacksonville and surrounding area tennis fans are invited to watch the US Open women's final tennis championship on the Jumbotron at The Jacksonville Landing on Sept. 11, 2010, and enjoy a Fall Tennis Fashion Show and numerous other activities during the first-time Twilight Tennis @ The Landing. And it is all free.

The finals of the US Open will be televised by Jacksonville's CBS affiliate CBS47 WTEV. Weeknight Action News anchors Paige Kelton and Mark Spain will serve as official hosts of Twilight Tennis @ The Landing, opening the event from 6-7 p.m. They will recognize local USTA Florida teams that have qualified for nationals in 2010, make special introductions for the Fall Tennis Fashion Show, and give away prizes, provided by USTA Florida and event sponsors.

In addition to the Fall Tennis Fashion Show featuring local pros, league player models and the US Open women's final, other events will include QuickStart Tennis mini-courts for adult and kids play, raffles during commercial breaks of the women's final and throughout the evening, food and drink specials for all USTA members that show current USTA membership cards, a Serving Speed Cage sponsored by Go Pro Tennis, a Dunking Tank sponsored by Linda's Legacy featuring local teaching pros, and a Photo Booth sponsored by Dan Harris Photo Art. Live music will follow the festivities from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., courtesy of The Jacksonville Landing.

Country clubs that will feature members as models during the fashion show will be the Queens Harbor Yacht Club, ATP Tennis Club, Deerwood Country Club, Jacksonville Golf & Country Club, Marsh Landing Country Club, San Jose Country Club, Sawgrass Country Club, Timuquana Country Club, and The Florida Yacht Club. Children's tennis clothing will also be modeled by students from the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation.

"Since many people will not ever have the chance to go to the US Open, USTA Florida wants to try and bring that fun tennis experience to them through Twilight Tennis," says First Coast USTA Florida Tennis Program Coordinator Amanda Becker. "The addition of some of these interactive activities will make it feel more like a Grand Slam atmosphere and keep the excitement going throughout the evening."

The festivities begin at 6 p.m., and participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to watch the US Open women's final. Following the tennis match, the five-piece, power party rock band, C4X, will perform live in the Courtyard at The Landing.

Twilight Tennis @ The Landing is a first-of-its-kind event in Jacksonville, sponsored by USTA Florida and The Jacksonville Landing. Additional event partners include the First Coast Tennis Foundation, Regency Beauty Institute, and Benny's Steak and Seafood at The Landing.
