US-Open-Playoffs-logo-2011Tennis players of any ability, age 14 and older, have an extra opportunity to register for the US Open Playoffs-Florida, which will be contested on May 28-June 3, 2011, at the famed IMG Bollettieri Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

Entries will close on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at midnight for men's and women's singles and mixed doubles. Winners of the Florida Section event will advance to compete against other USTA Section winners at the national event. Winners of the national events will receive men's and women's singles wildcards into the US Open Qualifying event, or a mixed doubles wildcard into the US Open Mixed Doubles main draw.

Last year's regional event in Florida drew from the entire spectrum of tennis players -- from USTA League participants to weekend hackers to college players, high school players, junior competitive players, senior players, and even former ATP pros like 38-year-old Mehdi Tahiri of Inverness, Fla. (via Morocco) who once ranked Top 400 on the ATP Rankings.

Last year's men's and women's winners also came from two different ends of the spectrum -- Plantation, Fla., resident and Haiti Davis Cup player Olivier Sajous won the men's event, while 15-year-old Jan Abaza of Deerfield Beach won the women's event.

After the close of entries, the seeding will be published the following Monday on the registration website, and the draws and schedules will be posted the following Wednesday.
