Volusia/Flagler Counties Win Two at USTA Florida Senior League Tennis Championships

Volusia/Flagler counties teams won two titles, while Leon and Pinellas counties captured one each during the USTA Florida Senior 3.0 & 4.0 League Section Championships, held May 20-22, 2011, at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach.
 
The USTA League Senior division (players 50 and older) competes at NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) levels of 3.0 to 4.5, with team match formats consisting of three doubles matches.
 
Volusia/Flagler counties captured both the Men's 3.0 and Women's 3.0 division titles.
 
The Men's 3.0 Volusia/Flagler team (playing out of the Florida Tennis Center, Daytona Beach) finished with a 3-0 round robin record in group play, ahead of Marion County (Ft. King Tennis Center, Ocala) at 2-1. The Volusia/Flagler team was captained by Bruce Cotton, with fellow team members John Edward Hanes, Garrett Charles Lane, Claude Bigot, Jim Zeisler, Ronald Vedova, Victor Passarello, Jeremy Cooper, Don Hamel and Richard Stoff.
 
The Women's 3.0 Volusia/Flagler team (Oceanside Country Club, Ormond Beach) defeated the squad from Polk County (Bartow Tennis Club, Bartow) 3-0 in the final. The Volusia/Flagler team was captained by Kathryn Arnold, and included fellow team members Mary Lou Kenzik, Sylviane Barton-Pontier, Sue Martin, Marianne Dineen, Lynda Davis Wilson, Peggy Turner, Mary Chanfrau and Mary Hermann.
 
Leon County (Forestmeadows Park and Athletic Center, Tallahassee) captured the Men's 4.0 title, defeating Marion County (Ft. King Tennis Center, Ocala) 2-1 in the final. The Leon County squad was captained by Dennis Kelly, with teammates Kenneth Cady, David Arciaga, Jim MacFarland, Ron Hartsfield, Charles Bunker, David Lane, Eric Mann, Steve Panton, Fred Palmer, and John McFarland.
 
Pinellas County (City of Clearwater) won the Women's 4.0 championship, defeating Orange/Seminole counties (Lake Mary Tennis Center) 2-1 in the final. The Pinellas squad was captained by Anne Pulley, with teammates Debbie Dawson, Sally Marshall, Henriette Skoczen, Nancy Bahls, Leslie Godwin, Deborah McCleery, Marion Murch, Ann Worthington, Sharon Carlile and Sandy Martin.
 
All four winning squads will now advance to the USTA League Senior 3.0 & 4.0 National Championships. The USTA League Senior 4.0 National Championships will be held on Oct. 14-16, 2011, in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The USTA League Senior 3.0 National Championships will be held on Oct. 28-30, 2011, in Indian Wells, Calif.
